Bremerton, United States, April 11, 2018 – Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz, can always be identified because they wear green ball caps and green crosses towards the backside of the helmets. As the group comprising of 17 sailors works in the safety department, it is responsible to deliver training through several safety programs.
James Martinez, the damage controlman, stated that the group always makes sure that the ship is safe at every instance. The job is done efficiently only when everyone is safe and there’s hardly any damage to the equipment.
While the ship is moving through the sea, the safety department trains sailors and makes them aware of how to mitigate problems. These could be related to injuries, dehydration, flight deck hazards and equipment mishaps. However, the approach has now changed since they are back after a long time.
Moving ahead, Nimitz safety officer, Cmdr. Jason Thompson said that it’s necessary to follow safety protocols while everyone is in the shipyard. An individual can’t deny that injuries and unexpected incidences are two times more than the ones at the construction site. After all, people are likely to face danger while they are working in the shipyard.
While the ship is undergoing maintenance, the voids are opened after many years. This actually makes it necessary to move on with fall protection and obtain gas free certifications. The people working in the safety department constantly carry out inspections, conduct protocol meetings, and insist on using personal protective equipment.
Martinez further spoke that the crew is good at enforcing regulations when they aren’t traveling. But, it’s always a different kind of situation in the yard because the crew members are busy in work related to the industry. This eventually takes more time in taking the personnel through a respirator program.
The shipyard contractors also work with the Nimitz crew in following the safety procedures. Every morning, the sailors conduct routine walkthroughs while the safety managers keep a track of the hazards and the violations. Ultimately, the joint effort keeps everyone safe when things are running smoothly.
With many people aboard, 17 sailors are finding it very tough to elaborate on the concept of safety and how the fall protection equipment can be used. So, to manage things, the safety department assigns and keeps a record of training sessions for every month. The personnel also appoint safety officers to conduct training for every department. Later, they have to submit reports based on the training requirements. Ways beyond, the workforce works towards to delivering essential information and in addressing issues whenever required.
Regardless of where the operations are carried out, the safety department always assists in establishing rules and regulations. This certainly keeps everyone away from issues when the environment becomes safe.
When Martinez was requested to offer advice on safety, he said that it’s better to wear protection equipment most of the time. This would keep the individuals alert of what’s going on at any instance. The crew members have to follow the protocols because a false sense of security can really be dangerous. The individuals would always be able to act fast when an incident happens unexpectedly.
Currently, the aircraft carrier is conducting an Intermediate Maintenance Facility along with an incremental availability. As every single thing is managed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the ship would go through maintenance as well as upgrades.
Depending on the requirements, Beam Runner is always delighted in offering anchoring devices and fall protection equipment. The device which is made from stainless steel is not only light in weight but also simple to use. While the automatic locking mechanism protects individuals from accidents, the tool is capable of sustaining an impact force as much as 5000 pounds.
